Hey, Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my review of Exedy's grooved Mach 500 stage 3 clutch with a hydraulic throwout bearing for 2005 to 2016 GT Mustangs. This particular stage 3 clutch is a good option for anyone looking to replace or upgrade their current clutch. This is a good option for stock to moderately modified Mustangs that see some hard driving or track time. This is pretty much the same Mach 500 stage 3 clutch that you guys already know with the sprung hub design. What Exedy did here was used an organic compound disc to keep the drivability nearly the same as the stock clutch, and keep a smooth engagement with what I call a firm pedal feel. Then they paired that with an upgraded pressure plate, so the clutch can handle more abuse. The difference with these clutches lies in the pressure plate. Exedy has used a grooved pressure plate, which should offer more holding power than the standard smooth pressure plate would. This means that the clutch will be able to hold more torque than the traditional stage 3 clutch can, about 30 foot-pounds more to put a round number on it, and all without what I classify as a huge jump in price over the standard stage 3 clutch, which is nice. The S197 version is rated at 522 foot-pounds of torque, and the S550 clutch is rated at 616 foot-pounds of torque, and that's at the rear wheels, just to clarify. And if that's not enough for you, then Exedy does have a stage 4 option on the site. Keep in mind that if you're looking at a new clutch, you should have something in mind for your flywheel, as well, and I'd recommend just picking a new one up.When it comes to the install, I will say that I'll recommend taking this to a shop unless you have prior experience in this area. This is going to be a three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and you're probably looking at about four hours' time if you do decide to tackle this yourself. If you choose to go that route, I'd also recommend trying to gain access to a lift. You're obviously going to be dropping your trans, drive shaft and exhaust, so performing this on jack stands could be a little difficult. And make sure you have a torque wrench. Lastly, don't forget about that clutch break-in period no matter who's installing the clutch. You're looking at about a 750-mile break-in period under normal driving conditions and before you start driving hard.Again, the Exedy stage 3 clutch has a grooved pressure plate that allows for the clutch to handle more load, and still has an organic compound disc, so you don't have to worry about heavy pedal feel. This clutch has a higher torque rating than the standard stage 3 clutch does, and isn't that much more expensive. As always, check this thing out online and see what you think for yourself. I'm Stephanie, and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

It's recommended that you add an SR Performance Braided Stainless Steel Hydraulic Clutch Line during your new clutch install. Stock plastic clutch lines can fail during aggressive driving. Stainless steel clutch lines help prevent gear lockout and provide superior clutch pedal feel, even under the toughest conditions.
