Hey, guys, Alex from americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my detailed review and breakdown of the Exedy Mach 600 Stage 4 clutch with flywheel and throwout bearing, fitting your 2007 through 2014 GT500. So in this video, I'm gonna talk about who this is gonna appeal to, what you should be expecting in terms of performance, as well as the feel, what you should expect to be spending, and then we'll take a quick look at the installation, where I'm gonna be giving this a pretty difficult three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and easily a three to five-hour job, and I'll have a little bit more for you on that later. So if you're a 2007 through 2014 GT500 owner and if you're starting to dabble with performance modifications, or if you're just stuck in racking up the miles, it might be a good time to start looking to overhauling your drive line as it's not a matter of if but when your clutch is gonna grenade itself. All right, guys, so right off the bat, I do wanna mention that despite this being rated at a stage four clutch, don't be fooled by that high number. This is gonna be a fine replacement in the event that your '07 through '14 clutch is on its way out. Not only that, in the event that you're looking to modify your Shelby, this is gonna be more than enough clutch for you to grow into, in the event you're gonna be throwing a smaller pulley at it, maybe a throttle body in tune or a set of long tube headers. So as we all know, the GT500 is a pretty aggressive and visceral drive. And if you're driving it like you stole it, or if you're starting to throw some modifications at it, it's definitely gonna be a good time to start looking into a clutch as, again, it's only a matter if but when it's gonna stray on the side of the road. So aside from this, for the '07 through '09 500 owners out there, if you've driven your car extensively, you probably know that it's gonna have some greatest hits in terms of drive line failure, or at least little quirks. Now, that can range from excessive chatter, some of the hissing you might find, or it's honestly just slipping out of gear, and I don't mean shifting between second and third and nailing it and you miss a gear, I mean literally, it coming out. Now, aside from that, for the '07 through '09 guys out there, that could definitely be nice if you're looking to clean up the drivability here, but for some folks, the GT500 is just a little bit difficult to drive. I'm not talking from personal experience here as I really like how the cars drive, no matter the year, but you're gonna be looking through something that's gonna engage a little bit more easily, but give you a little bit more of a stiffer feel. This is gonna be the setup that you should be after. Now, again, from personal experience, I personally love how the GT500s feel. But sometimes, you might notice that you're gonna have an issue with it either disengaging or even slipping as with some of the earlier cars, and looking at a solid 500 horsepower, and even getting into some of the newer cars, between the '10 and '14s, that power is going up that much further. So, again, if you're gonna be looking to throw some modifications at it, or if you're just racking up the mileage, it might be a really good time to look into overhauling your drive line. So in terms of the driving dynamics on the '07 through '14 500s, the Exedy unit that I have here today, despite being rated at upwards of 700 horsepower, it's not actually gonna give you that much more of an involved and direct feel of the drive. I do wanna call it out there that it is gonna be a little bit stiffer than what you might find your car right off the dealership slot. And if you're gonna be looking for an incredibly light pedal feel, I might personally suggest taking a look at a McLeod unit as it do have a tendency to be a little bit on the lighter side. Now, one thing that I definitely wanna get across about this unit is that it's not gonna be a full face style or a puck style clutch, something you might find on like a tried and true drag racer, where you're essentially either on or off, or engaged or disengaged. I would honestly make you hate driving your GT500, and at the end of the day, I don't want that and we don't want that here. This is gonna be to make you enjoy driving your car that much more better. At the end of the day, you're gonna be getting out of one system into another right here, which is gonna be able to accommodate that much more power, but we're just gonna make it a little bit easier to drive if you just don't like the driving dynamics of your Shelby. So in terms of the construction and materials here, guys, just like I had said a couple times, previously, this unit is gonna be rated at about upwards of 700 horsepower. But again, despite being a stage four rating, you don't need to have a slew of bolt-ons on your Shelby to get into this. This is gonna be a fine replacement clutch if your '07 through '14 is on the way out, and you need to get into something that's not gonna be a factor or a replacement unit. All right, guys. So down to brass tacks, we're gonna see this clutch is gonna feature a cerametallic disc for a snappy engagement, as well as a long life, as well as coming with Exedy's high clamp pressure plate for the best possible performance. So additionally, we're gonna see that all of Exedy's units are going to feature spring-centered dampers to reduce the drive line shock as the Shelby is not really gonna be something we're gonna be driving at like your grandma. And most, if not all times, you're likely gonna be putting your foot into it.Now, one of the greatest things about this kit, in my opinion, is the fact that this is going to essentially be a complete kit. You're gonna have the hydraulic throwout bearing, your alignment tool, your pilot bearing, as well as the flywheel here. Again, this is gonna be one-stop shopping to overhaul your drive line for your '07 through '14 500.All right, guys. So in terms of the pricing here, you should expect to be spending about 840 bucks for this complete kit, which, in my opinion, is definitely gonna be at the bottom of this bathroom [SP] in terms of drive line parts for the GT500. So I'd also go on record here and say that I definitely would not confuse the low price here for this being a budget minded kit. At the end of the day, you spend upwards of even 50 or 60 grand on your GT500. In the back of your head, you're not gonna wanna have that there, thinking that you paid a lesser amount for a clutch and flywheel setup. So if you're modding your GT500, just like I said before, you probably noticed that most, if not all, parts definitely have a tendency to command a higher price tag. Again, I definitely don't want you guys to be confused for this being a budget minded kit, Exedy makes some really incredible clutches and setups, and they are made to last. So, again, for the money here, I really think this is gonna be a great option, not only based on the fact that you're gonna have everything on the table right here, but the fact that's gonna be able to accommodate boatloads of power, as well as making it considerably more enjoyable to drive your Shelby. All right, so switching gears to the installation portion of the video, just like I had said up top, you're looking at a three out of three in the difficulty meter, and easily a three to five-hour job to get this into your car. Now I will add that it might be a great idea to pull somebody that's done a clutch job on a Shelby before. But if you're looking to tackle this by yourself, it's a great idea to get a couple extra sets of hands as this is gonna be pretty labor intensive to get this into your car.So if this is something that you're really not comfortable with or if it's just not in your wheelhouse, there's absolutely zero shame in taking this to a dealer or a speed shop to have it installed. Now, when I say it's pretty labor intensive to get this sucker in, I definitely mean it as you're gonna need to drop your trance by means of pulling up your exhaust. You need to ditch your drive shaft in order to get into your bill housing. And after that, it's essentially swapping one unit for the other one. While I know it's much easier said than done, you're looking at about three to five hours of labor here, and easily three out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter before you rip its gears. All right, guys. So just to wrap things up here, some final thoughts. If you're the GT500 owner that's in a process of overhauling your drive line, be it you're working with an older clutch that's racking up the miles, or if you're starting to modify your GT500 and you need to get into something that's gonna be able to handle boatloads of power, not only that, maybe you're that much happier driving your car, I would definitely suggest checking out this kit.All right, guys. So that's my detailed review and breakdown of the Exedy Mach 600 Stage 4 clutch with hydraulic throwout bearing and flywheel, fitting your 2007 through 2014 GT500, available right here at americanmuscle.com.
