In this video, we're going to walk you through the install of the SR performance short throw shifter and shifter bracket, available at AmericanMuscle.com. Tools required to install both the shifter and the bracket include a socket wrench, a few assorted extensions, a 10 millimeter deep socket, Allen key, razor, and finally a jack and jack stands or a lift to access the underside of the vehicle.Total install time should take you roughly two hours from start to finish. Start by removing the factory shift knob by spinning it counter clockwise. Remove the top part of your center console by opening the storage area at the back of the arm rest and pull up. Be sure to unplug any electrical connections before setting the console out of the way. Remove the fabric insulation first, and then the rubber boot from the factory shifter, exposing the four 10 millimeter bolts securing the shifter to the transmission. Support the vehicle properly with jack stands or a lift. Begin removing the shifter bracket assembly, located underneath the car.Using a 10 millimeter deep socket and a long extension, remove the two nuts securing the shifter bracket to the vehicle. You may have to remove a small metal clip that holds the bracket in place. Now, remove the factory shifter bracket. Disassemble the SR performance shifter bracket by removing the four Allen bolts holding it together, and slide the pieces apart. To install the new shifter bushing, you'll have to first cut the bushing using your razor to allow it to wrap around the shifter assembly snout.Slide the thin metal piece of the shifter bracket onto the snout of the shifter. Then, install the bushing around the snout so that it matches the retaining plate you installed in the previous step. Slide the thickest part of the bracket over the bushing and attach it with the rear plate. And then bolt the assembly back together using the four Allen bolts you removed earlier. Loosely reinstall the two 10 millimeter nuts holding the bracket to the vehicle. But do not fully tighten yet.The shifter and bracket assembly will need to remain lowered in order to access one of the bolts on the top side of the shifter. Back inside the car, now remove the four 10 millimeter bolts holding the shifter to the transmission, and set the bolts aside as they will be reused later. Gently, pull the shifter up and out of the vehicle. You will need to remove the plastic cuff on the factory shifter and transfer it over to the new SR performance unit. Now, install the new shifter into the vehicle by sliding it back into the top of the transmission and bolt it down using the four 10 millimeter bolts you removed earlier. With the shifter installed, you can now fully tighten the two bolts underneath the car, securing the shifter bracket to the chassis. Back in the cabin, reinstall the interior including the rubber shift boot first, making sure the arrows pointed down and facing the rear of the car. Then reinstall the fabric insulation.Plug in any electrical connections and then reinstall the center console, snapping it into place. Finally, screw on the shift knob, and that's it. The install is complete. Now, go out and enjoy shorter more accurate throws, thanks to the SR performance short throw shifter and shifter bracket, available here at AmericanMuscle.com.
